A Tip for Better Shoulders Doing Yoga

Although I don't do yoga, I've observed that some of the movements could benefit from yoga practitioners training for that range of motion before attempting them.

Having active control over a movement gives your joints better support, and that leads to more long-lasting joint health in the long run. What does that mean? If you have to pull or maneuver your arms or legs into a movement, instead of bringing them to the position on your own, you don't have much control over that range of motion and therefore might risk injury in that range.

Instead of seeing yoga as a way to improve control, it might be a better idea to see yoga as a skill and separately training your control (i.e. strength training!) in order to accomplish the poses/mindfulness training you want to do in yoga class.
