Knee pain from running?

Could it be IT band syndrome?

Usually it would feel like the outside of your thigh is tight, or a soreness around your outer knee.

One of the commonly thought of causes for IT band syndrome is running with too narrow a stance. Working on running mechanics is key to putting less stress on the IT band. Strengthening the muscles used to support those running mechanics will also help as you are using your muscles rather than the IT band to support the knee/hip joints (the job they are meant to do!)
